LOCAL AMENITIES

It's only a five minute walk from the quiet location of Carne Crest to the wide and sandy beach of Mawgan Porth.

A few minutes walk across it (or drive and park) brings you to the village and its amenities, which include Betty's, the newsagents selling beach accessories and souvenirs along with a small supermarket in the Mawgan Porth garage. Next door is the Surf King surf shop where all your surfing needs can be catered for, along with its own cafe. There is the surf school here too where you can really learn to surf.

The licensed Beach Cafe serves up delicious hot and cold food to eat in or take away, as well as a great choice of ice creams and drinks. Across the little river bridge is the fish and chip/pizza takeaway, and right next door is The MERRYMOOR pub and restaurant.

The MERRYMOOR is situated right opposite the beach, and has lovely views to take in, whilst enjoying a great variety of excellent value meals and beverages.

A little walk up the hill away from the beach is the brightly painted RIV pub and restaurant, offering food and drink in its modern restaurant with spectacular views of the beach, or there is bar food and drink in any of its other bars.

There's a car park, set back out of sight from the beach but just a two minute walk away, allowing easy access to the shops, pubs, and cafes as well as the beach of Mawgan Porth.

When you want a change of scenery there is always the large pitch and putt course which is also a couple of minutes walk away from the beach.

A drive of four miles north east towards Padstow brings you to St. Merryn, where you'll find a post office, a butcher's shop, two small supermarkets, a newsagents and a surf shop. Alongside these is a launderette, a petrol station and garage with a hardware shop attached, a bakery and cafe, and across the road is an exclusive restaurant for which you will need to book in advance. Around the corner is another restaurant, which is next door to a pub which serves restaurant and bar meals. Along a bit from here is a wine bar.

Fryer Tuck's fish and chip shop completes these local amenities. This is, in our opinion, the best in the area. If you wish to eat in rather than take away your food, there is a pleasant free indoor seating area, available adjacent to the shop and which seats approximately thirty people.

Continuing on for a further four miles to the outskirts of Padstow, brings you to a small Tesco store. There is another bigger Tesco store about 13 miles from Carne Crest in the small, but interesting town of Wadebridge. Going six miles to the south west is Newquay, where there is a large Safeway Store.
