LOCAL AMENITIES
It's only a five minute walk from the quiet location of Carne Crest to the wide and sandy beach of Mawgan Porth.

A few minutes walk across it (or drive and park) brings you to the village and its amenities, which include Betty's the newsagents selling beach accessories and souvenirs and where you can book surfing lessons , and Cornish Fresh the small delicatessen/supermarket with off licence in the old Mawgan Porth garage.
The licensed Fire restaurant next door, which is a cafe during the day, serves fine food. Across the little river bridge is the fish and chip/pizza takeaway, and right next door is The MERRYMOOR pub and restaurant.
The MERRYMOOR is situated right opposite the beach, and has lovely views to take in, whilst enjoying a great variety of excellent value meals and beverages.
There's a car park, set back out of sight from the beach but just a two minute walk away, allowing easy access to the shops, pub and cafe as well as the beach of Mawgan Porth.
When you want a change of scenery there is always the large pitch and putt course, along with a crazy golf course, which is also a couple of minutes walk away from the beach.
A drive of four miles north east towards Padstow brings you to St. Merryn, where you'll find a post office, two small supermarkets, a newsagents and The Pit surf shop. Alongside these is Toucan Choo the Chinese takeaway and the Deer Park Tearoom is further up the road. Opposite is a petrol station and garage with a hardware shop attached, Seven Bays Bistro, the Morris bakery and Ripley and Pope's delicatessen. Around the corner is Prynn's seafood restaurant and general food takeaway. Next door is The Farmer's Arms which serves restaurant and bar meals. Along a bit from here is the Doghouse wine bar and Rosel and Co. restaurant.
Fryer Tuck's fish and chip shop completes these local amenities. If you wish to eat in rather than take away your food, there is a pleasant free indoor seating area, available adjacent to the shop and which seats approximately thirty people.
Continuing on for a further four miles to the outskirts of Padstow, brings you to a small Tesco store. There is another bigger Tesco store about 13 miles from Carne Crest in the small, but interesting town of Wadebridge. Going six miles to the south west is Newquay, where amongst many other shops there is a large Morrisons store.
